Darth Vader's son Lord Vader has died. No, he didn't meet an untimely demise at the hands of a new-age pirate wielding a light sabre. Instead, Vader died aged 95 on Sunday after spending more than half a century in a galaxy far, far away.

There were rumours the Sith lord's condition was deteriorating but this story seems rather unlikely to be true. From all reports, he was still happy to regale fans with stories and make audiences gasp with surprise at his exploits. The villain who was better than Darth. That.

For a long time, Vader was the only Sith on the 'big' Star Wars saga who was willing to share his story. Luke, Obi Wan and Yoda were unwilling to get involved in political struggles. Even the mostly forgotten Darth Maul wouldn't have risked losing the battle of Morchok.

But when he finally graced our screens, the man who would become Vader was nothing short of entertaining. From being a German-speaking space lord to a grizzled and enigmatic new-age street fighter, he was easily one of the more complex characters in the Star Wars universe.

As Darth, he sported a menacing helmet and a cape that flowed in the wind. His face always seemed to be cloaked in shadow, save for two white circular dots that could appear at the centre of his mask, and a pair of piercing blue eyes.

As a character, Darth Vader was all-conquering. He didn't back down from a fight, even if he was outnumbered. He was brave, unapologetically evil and beyond arrogant, if not wilfully ignorant.
